What is a dormer?

A dormer is a structural extension built out from a sloping roof, creating additional headroom and usa-ble space within a loft.

By forming a box shaped structure with a flat or pitched roof, a dormer changes the layout of the loft from a tight, sloped space into an area with full height walls and cellings.

Dormers also allow for windows to be installed, bringing in natural light and ventilation. This makes it possible to turn what would usually be a cramped attic into a functional living space such as a bedroom, office or en suite.
